An occupation is the job done to earn a living. Occupations are of many types. Some occupations require manual work and some require special skill or proper training. There are different conditions and different requirements for different professions and occupations. The job of a bus driver is also one of such occupations.
The job of a bus driver is important. He performs a tough duty. He is an essential part of our society. Pakistan is a populous country and a large number of the people have to move from one place to another. To meet their requirements, bus service is necessary. So buses and their drivers play an important role in our society.
The life of a bus driver is constantly in danger. The road conditions in our country are extremely poor. So driving is always risky. The machinery is not at all dependable. The bus may break down any time anywhere. There are many check posts on the road. Usually policemen are always waiting for their preys on these posts. A bus driver has to please them by offering regular tips.
The life of a bus driver is very hard. He cannot keep regular hours. He does not know the , hours of his arrival at the destination. He is not sure about the time of his return. In this way, he is unable to look after his family properly. The result is that his children cannot get his supervision. So they usually do not perform well in life.
As far his life on roads is concerned, he thinks that he is the commander in chief. He has a conductor and a helper under him. They obey all the orders given by him. These three collectively hunt the passengers. There always exists a sense of competition among the bus drivers of the same route. This competition sometimes results in horrible accidents. Many precious lives are lost in such accidents.
A bus driver has some privileges on the road. He gets his clothes washed by a washer man at the bus stand. His shoes are always shining with polish. During journey he stops at the hotels and restaurants of his own choice. There he is served with a fine quality of food. Tea is his favorite drink. It keeps him alert and active.
In short, the life of a bus driver has its romance as well as risks. Anyhow, his services are great whether we acknowledge them or not. We feel the importance of buses and bus drivers when the public transporters are on strike.
