A great city is a city of Strangers. Life in city is a mixture of pleasures and problems. It has its advantages and disadvantages. The greatest advantage of city life is to have material gains. But at the same time, it has the greatest loss in terms of breakdown of moral values. City life gives birth to isolation that a man feels himself stranger within and stranger without. Even the neighbor doesn't know his neighborhood. Man lives like living corpse in city mainly because of the breakdown of human identity. Life in a village is calm and peaceful. Village life gives human identity, respect, care and sense of protection. Village has fresh air and healthful atmosphere while city has impure air and polluted atmosphere.
City has its advantages, too. Means of communication in city are quick and easily available. In village, it is very hard to find such things. The facilities of hospitals are far better in city than in village. The system of education in city is superior to that found in village. Banks and trade centers exist mostly in city while the village people are deprived of these things.
The flow of population from village to city shows that people prefer city life to village life. This preference is mainly for the sake of facilities available in city. If our government makes proper planning to develop village, people will stop migrating to city. In this way, both village and city will have their beauty. This type of the system exists in China. The Chinese live quite happily in village and never think of migrating to city. This has kept everything in balance. In our country, families like to live in city because better schools and colleges are available there.
In every big city, universities and colleges are available. Facilities of transport make the movement quite easy. But because of these things people face many Problems as well. When people go to offices and other places of work, there is an enormous rush on the roads. The same happens when they are coming back home. This thing spoils the peace of mind.
In city, there are better job opportunities. Because of better chances of employment, people live in city. Then modern facilities in city also attract them. There are so many government offices, private business centers and industrial units in city. It is easy for the people to get jobs according to their wishes and qualifications. Other civic facilities in city are far better than in village.
City life has its drawbacks. In city, people have little interaction. Even neighbors do not know one another. This lack of co-ordination brings indifference It is not good for human society. It very often happens that in the same colony marriage and funeral ceremonies take place side by side. People do not bother about others. The reason is that, in city, there are mostly residential colonies and people have no previous links.
Hence, life in a city is a mixed blessing. It has its problems and pleasures. Keeping in view the facilities that we get in city, we prefer to live in city. But we always desire to enjoy the blessings of the village.
